“Country boy, ain’t got no blues” ( Ring of Fire)
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009Once every so often we wonder if having a home in the country is worth it. If and when we have those thoughts, they quickly leave once we get to Fair Play and enjoy all the reasons we wanted it in the first place. Saturday was one of those days. The weather cooperated – it was hot, but not too hot. Nanna and Papi were there in the morning and we got off to a slow and casual start. About 9 AM we walked the neighbors house where we all got to pick through the garden sampling raspberries (Evan’s favorite), Strawberries (Sophies favorite), tomatoes, and anything else we wanted. Sophie and Evan love running around and picking what they want – and we are truly greatful to have wonderful neighbors like Rosie and Kelli who are so welcoming and generous. When we got home from there, We filled the kids pools with warm water because it was still only about 75 degrees at 10:00 AM. The kids played a bit in their pools and Daddies and Papi and Nanna read the paper and talked politics. With the kids happily entertained, Daddies left at 11:30 for a little wine tasting at DK Cellers and then a quiet lunch at Boccanato. When we returned from lunch, the kids were napping and Nanna and Papi headed back to SF. After naps Evan and Sophie were happy to play in the pool again. Daddies had a glass of wine, a few crackers and cheese and watched them play. A little while later, Giovanni came walking up the hill to pick some figs from our fig tree. The epitome of good country living in my mind is when the owner/chef of the local Italian restaurant can wander onto your property to get some fresh figs for this evenings dinner service! Tuscany has nothing on Fair Play!! We wrapped up the evening with a BBQ for just Daddies and kids on the back terrace as the sun set.
The pictures below are Evan and Sophie playing on the see saw that was a gift from cousins Eric and Tess. It was a great weekend to bring this out and they did a great job of learning to see saw together!

Evan and Sophie try getting in the right positions on the seesaw. Evan gets it but Sophie is facing the wrong direction.
